Ahrens was supposed to build this 4 engine turboprop utility aircraft at Borinquen Airport, but problems with the goverment and funding halted the project back in the early 1980s. Only two aircraft flew (N404AR and N1028G), and two more were built (N1028K and N1028N), as well as a fifth nose section. One complete aircraft (this one) and two.

The AR-404 was designed as a rugged utility aircraft, capable of carrying 30 pax or three LD3 cargo containers. It was intended to be series produced at Aguadilla in Puerto Rico, and this example was in fact the first one built there.
